Poongar rice is one of the traditional rice items in Tamilnadu,India.

This rice is hand pounded, so the color of the rice is slightly reddish and it contains anthocyanin.

A Red Rice variety equals the Mappillai Samba for Men; this variety is for Women strengthens the body.

This rice is suitable for making Idly, Dosa, Idiyappam, Puttu & Porridge (Kanji).

Cooking:

Please soak this rice for at least 12 hours before cooking. If it is cooked in pressure cooker, then leave for 6 to 8 whistles. Please make sure that the cooker has enough water. Soaking water should be pure water and not salty water.
