Our Sambar Recipe (for idly, dosa and medhu vada)
Required ingredients:
1. Toor dal ---- 1/2 cup, Oil ---- 1 teaspoon
2. Mixed vegetables --- 1 cup (carrot,beans,bell pepper)
3. Madurai Brand Sambar powder ---- 1 teaspoon, Turmeric powder ---- 1/4 teaspoon, Tamarind paste ---- 1 table spoon
4. Tomato ---- 1 (chopped)
5. Onion ---- 1 cup (chopped)
6. Oil ---- 1 table spoon
7. Mustard seed ---- 1 teaspoon, Urad dal (split) ---- 1 teaspoon, Curry leaves ---- 10 nos,Red chilli ---- 2 nos, Cumin seeds ---- 1 teaspoon, Asafoetida powder ---- 1/4 teaspoon
8. Salt ---- 2 teaspoon
9. Cilantro ---- chopped
Method:
1. Pressure cook No 1. Items with 5 1/2 cups of water for 10 minutes.
2. Heat the oil and add the item No.7.
3. Add the onion and fry until transparent.
4. Add the tomato and saute it until soft.
5. Add the vegetables and 1/2 teaspoon of salt and cook until crisp.
6. Add the item No.3 and mix well.
7. Add the cooked dal and salt and let boil for 15 minutes in medium heat.
8. Remove from the stove.
9. Garnish with item No.9.
